The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation’s five-year partnership with UNESCO to support the Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation welcomed a ceremony staged in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing to recognise previous winners.
The Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation has forged a five-year partnership with UNESCO to support the Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation. A special ceremony was staged in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing in November 2023 to recognise the seven China-based winners of the 2021 and 2022 cycles. Eighty-two projects from China have received UNESCO Awards, the highest number among the 47 countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Mr Daryl Ng, Director of Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation and Special Adviser to the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation, attended the award ceremony and congratulated the award winners in person. In the speech, he emphasised the importance of heritage conservation in promoting cultural values and connecting communities, citing the example of Tai O Heritage Hotel, where restoration efforts meticulously preserved the hotel’s history and architectural significance while rejuvenating the neighbourhood. The Hotel received an Award of Merit in the awards programme’s 2013 cycle.
The special award ceremony, held at the iconic World Heritage Property-listed Temple of Heaven, celebrated the China-based winners from 2021 to 2022.
Mr Daryl Ng presented a certificate to a representative of award winner the Songyang Culture Neighbourhood in Zhejiang

‘Buildings give the community character and the sense of connection; they tell our stories, and are integral to who we are. Through heritage conservation, we bridge the past with the present, map the way to the future and strengthen relations in the community. This epitomises UNESCO’s noble mission of contributing to peace through education, science, culture and communication. It is the embodiment of humanity. In this ever-changing world with faster and faster technological advancement, the recognition and celebration of humanity is even more important.’
